What would you remember apart from the tasteful mojitos at the beach and the nice guy or gal on the sunbed next to you? We know very well that for someone to feel the lifestyle and rhythm of a place is necessary to walk it. Especially when this place is Paros, which has so many special places for someone to find out separately and fall in love…

It is easy to begin as long as you start with an amble at the harbour. Of course, the first thing that you will face is the impressive mill that stares entirely at the island and is flirting with your camera! Next up the road will get you, definitely not by chance, to one of the most known sights of the island, the church of Panagia Ekatontapiliani which is the ornament of the island that stands proudly and shows its impressive stone walls. Without realizing it, and after you have walked between the classic white houses with the coloured blue windows and doors that we have adored from the pictures and are the hallmark of the islands of the Aegean sea, you will get to the castle. The known castle of Parikia or else Fragkokastelo is located on the hill of Agios Konstantinos where a part of it and some of its ruins are saved and can provide you with a quick trip back to the past. Concerning the time being, you can have a taste of what it is like by stopping for a coffee or a drink in one of the many shored cafes, for example, in Meltemi that has a great view towards the sea, as well as the Cosa Café bar which serves delicious waffles and refreshing coffees! Wherever you choose to sit one thing is for sure you will feel the unique hospitality by the residents that will take care of you in the best possible way! Paros: Local products that you have to try

The uniqueness of a place is not only distinguished from the natural ambience and its people. It’s a combination of many factors. The local and traditional products of a place play an important role in its authenticity. Paros has plenty of local products, and some of them are only produced there. If you want to enter intensively in the island’s local society the only thing you have to do is try some of the local dishes or buy a product as a keepsake from your visit.

Suma

It is a variety of raki in Paros, which is only made by a specific part of the grape and is a social activity for the locals. You will hear them say “Let’s have souma” which foreshadows the first moments of celebration around the fire during the distillation process. The passion and love for the souma production it is apparent in the final product. When you’ll visit the local taverns choose it for yourself to accompany it with your delicious binners and buy some gifts for your loved ones.

Cheeses

You will find on the island cheeses of excellent quality like xynomyzithra, ladotyri, brine cheese, touloumisio and mizithra. They are perfectly combined with your wine and meal, and also the local housewives use them to make desserts-special and tasteful- like myzithropitakia, lamprokouloura and lazarakia or spoon sweets. It is worth tasting it with bread from a local bakery of Paros and through the desserts in which they are found as the basic ingredients.

Baklava with sugar

It is a combination of baklava and macaroons that has coarse almonds, grated rusk from Paros, cinnamon and vanilla. It is worth mentioning that instead of having a baklava dough, a thick layer of icing sugar is the base and the topping of the dessert. Try it and get thrilled by this special combination of flavours. Inevitably tasting it once will not be enough, as you’ll surely provide yourselves with some of it.

Caper

Before leaving Paros save some space in your luggage for some jars of caper. Its salty flavour will give some taste to your salads, sauces and meals. Some of the best beaches of Greece are found in Paros. This is one of the most important reasons why someone is “falling in love with” the island once he visits it. Kolybithres is the most famous beach on the island. They are essentially 3 small beaches that are joined together by creating an impressive landscape, combined with the green-blue waters. Chryssi Akti. Who went there and wasn’t captivated by its beauty? It is the biggest beach of Paros with its characteristic golden sand, which attracts many visitors daily.

Paros in my own eyes…

Paros in my own eyes…

Greece has countless islands, but some of them stand out. Paros is one of them. An island that I fell in love with from the first minute. It is very different, traditional and beautiful. It is the third biggest island in the Cyclades and is worldwide known. Every year countless tourists come to the island. I had the chance to be one of them for once in my life. The first thing that I noticed was Chora. White and blue houses show intensively the island’s beauty. The blue colour dominates everything. The truth is that it takes time to learn about the island, to live it and more likely to enjoy it. I did the mistake and chose to stay there only for 6 days. This is the first thing you need to avoid. A small number of overnight stays. However, this number of overnights would be enough for some other destinations, but not for Paros. In Paros, you will find many things to do and see. The most important one is to visit as many beaches as you can and enjoy the green-blue waters to the fullest. It’s an island that caters for all tastes. Every year it’s chosen by many young people, families, couples… and everyone always comes back with the best impressions. Maybe it is time you see the island at my glance. Get to know it from my own eyes and feel the way I felt…

Kolymbithres Beach…

Kolybithres, the most known beach of the island is found, in the west part of Naousa’s bay. A beach, which has become extremely touristic, but it stays beautiful. It would be nice if you spend a day there. If you love the sea, then you will be amused. The place is amazing. There are also restaurants there around, which make it easier for you to stay longer. Just to let you know, I spent all my day there and again I could stay more.

Chrissi Akti (Golden Beach)…

Chryssi Akti is one of the most beautiful and big beaches on the island. It is like a terrain-based paradise. It seems as it came out of a fairytale and it looks like it is fake. On the beach, apart from the Beach bars, you will also find restaurants and taverns. As it is an organized beach you will have access to everything. Even though it is known, it is calm. If you are interested in sailing activities then you found the ideal beach.

Parikias’ villages…

Essentially, it is the capital of the island. There are found many of the most important sights on the island. Apart from the sights, in the capital, you can live on the city’s beat. Nightlife, restaurants, bars and entertainment for everyone, everything is there. Be sure that your days there won’t be enough. Tourists live to the fullest on the island and you will realise that from the first moment. There are many options for the night, from beach bars to places for a relaxing drink or cocktail

It also has sights…

As you know, when we go to an island for a vacation in the summer, usually we concentrate on the beaches and the fun part. However, Paros is more than that. Even if you don’t want to visit any landmarks and monasteries, at least you have to pay attention to the castle, which dominates there by the 13th century. During your tour, many small churches will draw your attention. They won’t be unnoticeable. Make sure you have charged your phone because it is imposed to take pictures of a place like this.

Πάρος: Ο παράδεισος των θαλάσσιων σπορ!

Πάρος: Ο παράδεισος των θαλάσσιων σπορ!

Apart from the cosmopolitan character that summer vacations have in Paros they also dispose many activities. One of them is sea sports. We can say that Paros is a favourite destination for surfers and in general for those that love sea sports as well as for people that are willing for new, fascinating experiences.

The great turnout of people coming for the sea sports has made most of the beaches have excellent services and infrastructures, for beginners and advancers. Windsurfing and kitesurfing are on the top list. The eastern and western beaches of Paros are the best of their kind worldwide. It is not a coincidence that in Chryssi Akti took place the World Windsurfing Championship for many years, while Punda is included in the World Kitesurf Championship. Greek and foreign surfers come here every year! Chryssi Akti may be the most famous beach for windsurfing. There are many schools to learn and rent equipment for that. Thus, beginners can be trained and try their potentials on windsurfing with safety and certainty by the qualified instructors that are in charge. The beach of Nea Chryssi Akti is ideal for those that are more experienced in windsurfing. That is because in that region winds of great intensity and duration have been recorded.
