The most beautiful city of Malta
In particular, after the end of the siege of Malta, the knights of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem decided to build a new city on the Sciberras Peninsula and turn it into one of the strongest fortified castles in southern Europe. So, this city was called Valletta and its cornerstone was laid on March 28, 1566 by the Grand Master of the Order Jean Parisot de la Valette after whom the city was named. The main designer of the city’s street plan was Francesco Laparelli while the Maltese architect Gerolamo Cassar is responsible for most of its baroque buildings that you can still admire today! Trade has always played a major role in the economic life of Valletta as its geographical position facilitates its operation as a transit station and a supply center. Today, the main source of income is tourism thanks to the constantly improving infrastructures and the particularly pleasant Mediterranean climate spread on the entire island.
