Rhodes: 5 activites that you cannot miss!

Rhodes: 5 activites that you cannot miss!

Ah, Rhodes!! It is an island with much more to do than lying all day on a sunbed at the beach. Maybe that is why so many visitors that go to this spectacular island choose to do more “enthusiastic” activities during their vacations! I did the exact same thing! I had the best experience by doing things and activities that I could not find in any other place.

The waves of Rhodes !

Prasonisi. It is one of the most bustling places on the island where you can see many professionals and amateurs windsurfing! There you can also observe the band of land that separates the Carpathian Sea in half and connects Prasonisi with Rhodes. The sandy part that connects the cay with Rhodes creates two bays: on the one side a blow is usually observed that creates the perfect waves for surfing, while the waves on the other side are more calm and provide the perfect weather conditions for beginners and experienced surfers. These two conditions can happen while in the rest of the Aegean Sea stillness prevails! Rent a waterproof uniform, a surfboard and you are ready to go. You will feel like you rule the world while having control of the waves and sliding on them easily! It is something that I would never stop doing!!

Routes with 4×4 !

One of the activities that I recommend to those that visit Rhodes is the organised excursions with 4×4 vehicles! It might not be common knowledge, but Rhodes has a wide off-road network suitable for routes with 4×4 vehicles. You will have some hours of mental alertness and bodywork, you will feel the change of emotions and images, while different landscapes will take turns in moments of tension and adventure.

Golf games !

The island of the knights, that is Rhodes, was the first place of Greece that hosted organised golf premises of international standards. The big stadium functions all the time of the year and is the perfect place for minors and adults. The Athletic Golf Association of Afantos was founded in 2002 and since then more and more locals have started playing golf. The truth is that I never thought that golf could be any interesting or fun. Mistake!! Big mistake. It is much more than interesting and fun. It is something that I totally recommend and I am so glad I did it! Try it!!

Knights..for a reason !

Horse-riding in Rhodes is very famous. On the island someone can find many equestrian clubs that organise races throughout the year. So if you are trying to find the knight that lives in you or you want to be the rebellious princess that runs away with her horse to meet the prince of her dreams, the only thing you have to do is to take some horse-riding lessons and travel back in time. It is the most beautiful way to get to know the island and its nature!

Kefalonia: The best beaches on the island!

Kefalonia: The best beaches on the island!

Kefalonia is one of the many ornaments of the Ionian Sea and is known for two things: for its cozy and hospitable people and for its beautiful beaches. It is the perfect island for families and young people. Below we present to you the best beaches of the island for those that want to travel this summer to the magical Kefalonia!

Myrtos

It is the most famous beach on the island. It is located approximately 15 kilometers away from Fiskardo and is visited by thousands of tourists every year. You will be fascinated by its turquoise waters and its white sandy beach. It feels like you are in paradise!

Avithos

It is known all over Greece for its golden sand. Everyone has loved this beach as it has crystal clear and shallow waters and that is why it is perfect for families traveling with young children. Swim until the cay of Dias (“Zeus” in Greek) on the opposite of the beach or enjoy the view of the Ionian Sea from the sunbed of the beach bar.

Antisamos

This beach is known from the “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” movie and many people choose it among others. Swim into its emerald waters and enjoy your coffee on a sunbed under the sun!

Platis Gialos

This beach has been awarded with a Blue Flag and this is owed to its blue-green waters and golden sandy beach. It is the extension of Makris Gialos from which is separated with rocks. You won’t be disappointed with any of those!

Lourdas

It is a piece of pure beauty by itself. It is located near the Lourdata village approximately 15 kilometers from Argostoli. It has crystal clear waters and thin golden sand. At this beach you will find many beach bars with people partying until the morning.

All the things that you fall in love with in Santorini!

All the things that you fall in love with in Santorini!

One of the top travel destinations, not only in Greece but also worldwide is Santorini which is honoured every summer, while it is present in all the media worldwide! Every year the island of Santorini is a must-see destination for those that want to combine sightseeing and activities and to get to know all of the island’s aspects! I can assure you that the island can offer you only a positive experience, because during my stay there I tried to do as many activities as possible to get to know the island….

The exquisite beaches!

This romantic island has countless beaches, that fluctuate from wild coasts with hot black sand to organised beaches where you can enjoy your cold drink directly from your sunbed. Do not reject the organised beaches before giving them a chance. Even though I do not like the bustling beaches, I really liked the beach at Kamari! For the days that I needed some relaxation time I was lying on a sunbed in front of a tavern and around the evening I was getting up to go and devour a greek salad and drink homemade wine at the hotel… even though the adventurous part of me was suffering at the time, I was really enjoying it.

The sunset from the best locations on the island !

The truth is that Oia is the best location to go if you want to observe the wonderful sunset of Santorini! Believe me, you won’t be by yourselves! You will meet many people that will want to capture the moment with a photograph like you. Wait for the best part. As the sun starts to set you will be amazed by the people’s applause! The sunset at the Castle of Oia is not the only place where you can see the sunset. You can also see it at Fira, Firostefani and Imerovigli. To get a different view choose the Faro at Akrotiri, where you might be alone. Otherwise, you can admire it by Profitis Ilias (Pyrgos) which is one of the highest places of the island or by the beach of Vlihada while having a look at its volcanic scenery that changes its colours as the sun sets.

A visit to the museums of the island !

A visit to the Prehistoric Thera Museum, as well as at the archeological museum is like delving into the long history of the island. The first accommodates findings from the excavations at Akrotiri, such as furnitures’ mould, copper utensils and the unique aegagros gold figurine. The archeological museum accommodates sculpture and inscription exhibitions from the Ancient to the Roman years. Visiting this museum was the best choice I ever made. I learned many things concerning the history of the island, mostly things that we still disregard!

Trying the dishes of Santorini along with the astonishingly local products!

How would it be possible for you to feel the power of the island, if you didn’t taste its scents and try its products that are cooked and made with love by the people on the island? It is very endearing the fact that you meet people that love to mix all the local products and create flavours that will make you revise everything you knew about the food! I loved the wine and the food in Santorini and most of all the fresh seafood. Surprisingly, the volcanic ground offers many more treats, like the sweet grape, the local fava bean, whilst there is no lack of fresh local products. A try will convince you..

The wine of Santorini and its astounding flavour !

Undoubtedly, the uniqueness of Santorini is correlated with the volcano and the caldera, but it will be unfair to stick only to these points. The volcanic ground gives significant characteristics to the wines. Visiting a winery has many more to give than you think of, as you can observe the traditional farming of the vineyard, the vinification and try some of the best wines. Many types of wines are produced there. Assyrtiko is the wine that is named after the variety that has played an important role to the volcanic climate and ground of Santorini. You can taste all the scents of Santorini simply by drinking a glass of this wine. The second most known wine is Nykteri. Nykteri is a maturation type of wine that is named as such because according to the tradition all the work for its vinification happened at night. Finally, Vincanto (Vino di Santorini) is the traditional sweet wine of Santorini which is linked to its contemporary history and has made it famous all over the world. The truth is that before departing from the island I brought some wines back home!! You know.. I want them to remind me of the good times I spent there..

Shopping in the alleys !

There are many expensive shops that sell jewellery and souvenirs, but there are also shops that address customers with a limited budget. If you are a bookworm like me you will fall in love with Atlantis Book at Oia. Walking in the alleys of the island gives you a unique feeling. You get the impression that this island never sleeps!! Lisbon: A visit to Alfama!

Lisbon: A visit to Alfama!

Alfama is the oldest neighbourhood in the area of Lisbon, it is spread on the slope of the hill from the St George’s castle to the Tagus river. Is one of the few places in the city that wasn’t affected by the big earthquake and therefore a walk to that region is like a trip back in time. At Alfama you will see old churches, museums, galleries and very close to the river you will find restaurants with local and international dishes, as well as many bars & clubs to entertain yourselves. The name of the old town of Alfama originates from the Arabic word Al-Hamma that means “baths”.

The picturesque Alfama…

Alfama is the oldest neighbourhood of Lisbon which can provide you an unforgettable trip back in time. The most picturesque area of the Portuguese capital consists of a maze full of narrow alleys, small squares and colourful houses. The allure of Alfama is justified by the many sights that it has. One of the most unique buildings is the Lisbon Cathedral, which is the oldest church of the capital of Portugal. Exceptionally impressive is the St Vincent’s monastery where the kings of the Braganza house are buried, as well as the baroque church of St Engarcia that has turned into a national pantheon. It is an extremely beautiful old district that you must visit during your trip to Lisbon!

Τhe sporty Lalaria

Lalaria: It is the incarnation of the ancient-greek maxim “A sound mind in a healthy body”. By all accounts, it is the second most beautiful beach in Skiathos and for many people the first. The landscape’s beauty–wild at some points- is captivating. Your mind is getting away from any negative thoughts as you enjoy the landscape. Physical health must not be omitted as well. The athletic persons can exercise their swimming skills by passing by the known rock or dipping from it. Have a nice swim!

It is maybe the most known beach in Skiathos and that is why extensive descriptions must be avoided. It is not by chance that it has been voted the most beautiful beach on the island. One thing is for sure: relaxation and amusement in one! Its golden sand and azure waters provide you with the opportunity to do water sports by listening to summer music.

The magical Aselinos

The magical Aselinos with its poetic name is located in the northern and wildly charming part of the island. Looking backwards your eyes will be filled with the green scenery while looking toward the sea you won’t find a point to stop your dreamy reverie. The beach, which is filled with pebbles, offers you moments of relaxation and playing while the clear surface of the sea with its slightly green hue allows you to discern in detail the creatures of the seabed.
