What NOT to miss!
Helsinki is known for its industrial design and modern buildings that follow the latest trends of fashion and architectural style. One of the things that shouldn’t escape your camera lens is the Oodi, the Central Library of the City, a lively place for meeting locals, concerts, reading, relaxing and walking. Another attraction of modern aesthetics is the Amos Rex, the museum of Modern Art. On its interior, you can find many shops of commercial interest, restaurants and even a cinema. An attraction of classic architecture but of exceptional historical importance, is the Helsinki Cathedral which is located in Senate Square. There, you’ll also find the University of Helsinki, the Government Building and the National Library of Finland. They are all buildings of exceptional neoclassical architecture that you shouldn’t miss. Since 1889, the central point of the city has been the Old Market. Wander around and you’ll find many interesting shops with a great variety of food, vegetables, sweets, local products, wines and delicacies. If you want to get a taste of the city, we strongly recommend you to visit it and have lunch in one of its small restaurants. Market Square is another large and international open-air market, with a variety of products and beautiful souvenirs, for those who want to get a gift for their loved ones. Finally, there is a very famous attraction: the Temppeliaukio Rock Church. It is a temple of unique architecture, literally inside a rock! You’ll find it at the end of Fredrikinkatu. It has great acoustics so we suggest you visit it one day of the week that has a religious mass.
